How to Edit the Splash Screen of Opmin 4.2 Labs Handler Browser

The picture you see when you launch your Opera Mini browser during it's loading time and before the homepage is displayed is what is called "the splash screen" of the browser.

This is an interesting tutorial that we are going to be discussing. However, to find this tutorial simple and easy, you must have the knowledge of how to edit some basic features of the Opera Mini Browser.

I believe by now you should have at least know how to edit the basic features of Opera  Mini Browser. Otherwise, take time to practicalize the above tutorial.

The following will be required for this tutorial:

• An image in .png format and relatively with low size. The resolution of this image must fit with mobile screen resolution i.e 128 x 160 or 176 x 220 or 240 x 320 and so on.
• Class editor
• Calc4me
• Hex editor
• Blueftp

Have gotten all these things ready? Then let’s proceed to the business of the day.

Extract the Opmin4.2Labs with Blueftp into a new folder. In case you don’t know how to extract file with Blueftp, you can acquire the idea here; HOW TO EXTRACT FILES USING BLUEFTP.

Have you extracted the file? Ok. Open your class editor, locate the picture you wish to use and open the picture, press * to highlight the content until the end you can press key 7 and input 999999 and then press the # key to go to the last part.

Write down the size of the picture. It is shown at the bottom of the screen highlighted in red colour. Press key 5 and then click on copy to copy the content.

NOTE: Don’t exit your class editor until you’re done with this process.

Now, go to the folder where you extracted the opera mini and locate the v or v.class file from the contents. Open the file and search for PNG. To quickly complete the search, press key 9 and enter into the textbox PNG. Press ok and then press # key and key 4.

Starting from the ‘PNG’, carefully highlight the content until the size of the highlighted contents become 12652 bytes. Press key 5 and click on INSERT from the listed icons. press the left soft key and click on save.

Take a deep breath and relax. We’ve get to the difficult part of the tutorial. Not that difficult, it just require extra + ordinary care.

Remember you copy down the size of the picture some minutes ago? It’s time to use the value. Open your Calc4me and press the DOWN navigation key twice, input the value you wrote down then press and hold the # key.

Some value will pop up to  the screen – the hex value of the picture, just copy down the value and exit the calc4me. Open your Hex editor and paste the value you copied. Click on execute to get your result.

Write down the value on a sheet of paper and exit the hex editor. Note: each hex code must not be greater than 4, the total number of hex value should be 14. Open your class editor and again open the v file. Press 0 key then 9 key, input 27 and press ok then press the # key.

You will some values which correspond with the values you copied down. Start replacing the value with the new one you just generated. Press the left soft key and click on save. Exit the class editor, pack your file with the Blueftp and test your handy work.

You’ve just change the splash screen of the opera mini.

How to flash Nokia phones by yourself

I could still remember some months ago when I need up to #500 before I could flash my Nokia phone. When the engineer becomes a nice fellow, he can reduce it to #400 - #450. My curiosity leads me into searching on how to flash phone myself without requiring the help of an engineer.

I want to tell you this today that you can now flash your Nokia yourself. I write this article for the purpose of increase in personal technology knowledge (not for me only, but for everyone who has the opportunity of reading this post).

Let’s get to business without wasting time. The requirements for this tutorial are Phoenix and Navifirm software. Google search this software or you go to Filehippo.Com or Mediafire.Com to download these software.

After downloading, follow the steps below to complete the tutorial;

• Make sure you’re connected to the internet before you open the Navifirm Software. You can go to a café to do that if you didn’t have any network connection.
• After opening the Navifirm, wait to receive data from server otherwise select Nokia server suite and wait for the connection to load.
• A list of Nokia products with their RM will appear. Select the RM of the phone you wanted to flash. You can get this by typing *#0000# on your Nokia phone.
• Select the version you wish in version dialog box and select the type of firmware you need for your phone.
• In the last dialog box, make sure you mark all the files present in the box either by doing manually or by clicking mark all button at the right hand corner of the box.
• After marking all the files, select the folder you want to download the files to, then click Download button.

Now you’re done with the work of Navifirm. Close your Navifirm software.

• Open your disk folder C:\\Program Files\Nokia\Phoenix\Products\
• Inside the product folder, create a folder with your phone’s RM so that it will look like this C:\\Program Files\Nokia\Phoenix\Products\RM-XXX\ where XXX is your RM’s number.
• Copy the files you downloaded with the Navifirm into the RM folder.
• After that, make sure you’ve back up your files. Remove all data cards such as SIM card and Memory Cards.
• Switch off your and connect it to your computer system.
• Launch Phoenix and select NO CONNECTION in the dialog box.
• Click on files and proceed to open product.
• Select your phone’s RM number.
• In the toolbar menu, select flashing and click on firmware update.
• A dialog box will appear. At the front of the product code, click on the button marked ‘…’ and select your product code.
• Tick the ‘Dead flashing’ box and then click on Refurbish.
• .Follow the instruction displayed and wait till the flashing is successful.

Now you’re done with the flashing.

How to mod Opera Mini 4.

Introduction: Opera Mini is an internet browser widely used by mobile and pc users today. It is known for its connecting speed, colourful interface, and some other interesting features.

This Tutorial is to show you how to modify some features of this popularly known browser to suit your taste. At the end of this tutorial, you should be able to modify the following features;

• The name of the browser and its Icon
• The Loading text
• Installing text
• Connecting and Processing text
• The browsers title.

Requirements:

• Blueftp
• Opera Mini (Unmodified one) in .zip format
• Class Editor

Difficulty: Medium

Method: I believe you should have gotten all the requirements above ready. If so, let’s start by changing Icon and the browser’s name. You might as well need to read HOW TO EXTRACT ZIP ARCHIVE FILES USING BLUEFTP. before you continue.

Changing the Icon

Extract the contents in the opera mini into a new folder. From the contents you extracted from the zip archive opera mini, locate the image with the name `i.png’ and delete it. Create an icon not larger than 50kb in size – depending on the resolution of the image, I would prefer you crop your image to 42x29 pixels. Rename the image to `i.png’ and copy it to the folder where you extracted the opera mini. Now, you’ve just change the icon of the browser.

Changing the browser’s name

The detail of the opera mini such as the Name, Vendor, Version, server and so on is located in the folder META INF which contain the file manifest.mf

To change the name of the browser, open your class editor and locate the folder where you extracted the opera mini, locate the folder META INF. Open the folder and click on the file manifest.mf

Carefully scroll down using key 2, 4, 6, and 8 to navigate while searching for Midlet – Name look at the screenshot below.

Highlight the name of the opera mini just as you have seen in the picture above. Have you highlighted the name? Press 5 three times and scroll down to select TEXT. Now input your desire text to replace the one you’ve just deleted. Press 4 to see your edit.

Changing the server name

Still in the same manifest.mf file, scroll downward using key 8 and lookout for http://server4.operamini.com. Highlight the address and press 5 three times, select TEXT and input your desire server.

NOTE: This is applicable to opera mini handler only.

If you wish, with patient, you can also edit some other things in the manifest.mf file. Just be careful about what you edit and remember to save your edits by pressing option and clicking on Save.

Changing some features in the v class

In the v class, you can edit the following:

• Loading
• Installing and Connecting
• Processing and the title of the opera mini.

When changing the name of the opera mini, you’ll notice that the method used in replacing the text is elimination method i.e you’re not bothered about the number of character that make up the text. In this v class, the method to be used is known as substitution method, you replace text with exact number of character you deleted.

To edit Loading, processing, connecting and installing

There are two type of Loading in this file. The first one is displayed when you launch your opera mini, while the second one is displayed when you’re downloading information from a webpage.

Open the v class file and navigate downward searching for Loading. For easy access, press key 9 and input Loading in the text box, then press option >> ok and press 4. You’ve seen it? Ok. The first Loading you saw is the one that appears when you’re downloading information from a webpage. Highlight the text as in the screenshot below.

Press 5 thrice and select text.

Wait! When you count the number alphabet that make up Loading you’ll see that it is 7 in number. So, input your desire text to replace the one you deleted. Remember, it must be 7 in number. Press option >> ok and press 4 to see your work. That’s for the first Loading text.

Search again for Loading by pressing 9, this time, the Loading that appears to you is the displayed when you launch your opera mini after successful installation. Use the same method for editing the first Loading to edit this one too.

The same process goes for editing processing, connecting and installing. You can always search for each text using the 9 key.

To edit the browser’s title

This is the name displayed at the top bar of the opera mini’s homepage. See in the screenshot below.

The total number of character in the opera mini’s title is 10 i.e. Opera = 5, Mini = 4, the space between them = 1, Total = 10. Edit it using the previous method and save your work

Exit the class editor and open Blueftp and locate the folder you’ve been working on, highlight all content in the folder and press Menu, scroll down and click on compress to jar. Give it the name you want and press Ok. Press Yes whenever it is prompted until you’re done then close the Blueftp.

Finally, go to your phone memory and locate the file you just compress, rename it from xxx_jar to xxx.jar and save it. Note: xxx is the name you give the file when compressing it. Launch the opera mini and see your work.

Warning/Tips

In programming, software is designed for universal use. Therefore, I would advice when editing some of this feature, make sure it can be used by other users. Enjoy.

How to extract zip archive files with Blueftp on your phone.

Introduction: One of the usefulness of Blueftp from its vast function is the extraction of an archive file. Just as we have different extension format for images, music and applications such as .jar, .jpg, .png, .mp3, .mp4, .jpeg, .sis, .sisx, .3gp, and so on. We also have some extension format of which they are used for file compression. Of all this extension, we shall emphasize on .zip extension format. Some other extension format for file compression includes: .rar, .gz, e.t.c.
At the end of this tutorial, you shouldn’t find it difficult to extract files using Blueftp.

Difficulty: Easy

Requirements: An archive file – for this purpose, a zip archive file is required, Blueftp or any other file explorer application. Click HERE to download Blueftp.

NOTE: Not all file compression extension format can Blueftp extract i.e WinRar is used to extract .rar extension format and the same thing apply to other extension.

Method: Create a new folder to avoid mix – up of files. You can create the folder either on the Phone Memory (C:/) or Memory Card (E:/). Now the zip file should be ready on your phone. First, you need to set the permission of the Bluetooth application to access your data. Locate the Blueftp application where you downloaded it, press option and scroll down to App. Access. Click on it and scroll down to Data access. Click on Add and edit data then select Ask every time – If your device does not support ‘Always allowed’ or ‘Ask first time only’.

Now open the blueftp application. It will prompt you to put on the Bluetooth but for security purpose, press NO. It will prompt you again ’Allow application to read data in: …’ press yes whenever it brings up this message to you. Locate the folder where you save the zip archive file and click on the file.
On clicking the archive file, it will open up a folder which will contain some content depending on what is packed in the folder. Press the Menu button and scroll down until you see Select All then click on it. You can also use the * and # key to highlight the contents.

After selecting all the contents, press 1 (shortcut key for copying) on your phone's keypad and locate the new folder you created. Open the folder and press 3 (shortcut key for pasting) to paste the contents you,ve extracted or copy. It will prompt you to access your data, press yes and continue pressing on the process is done. There it is, you've extracted the contents in the zip archive file.

Warning/Tips:

• When the Blueftp application prompt you to access your data, make sure you know the function it want to execute i.e You mistakenly click on the delete button.
• During extraction of the zip contents, be patient enough to click yes when it is required. Being too fast in responding to the command might cancel the process.
